"I suspect that most of the money would be in the sales and marketing, not in R&D."
R&D and marketing are overhead, they produce no income whatsoever. From a business perspective, the only reason companies do R&D is in order to develop products that they can sell. The only reason they do marketing is to drive sales. Split these functions up so that they must be done by seperate companies that bill each other for their services and I think you would find that prices skyrocket while product choices decline.

I didn't really read anything that shocking in the Times piece. What struck you so about it? I wouldn't necessarily believe what one doctor says. That article basically stated the obvious - and nothing that I read was anything that isn't already common knowledge, or so I thought. Chavez is throwing a lot of money at Cuban doctors to get them to work in free clinics in Venezuela, whcih are desperately needed. You can really argue a ton of things either way with this..... .... I have not, sadly, received a bootleg copy of the movie, so I don't know what Moore is claiming specifically... we'll just have to wait and see!
Moore was on Bill Maher recently. Well worth Youtubing.
btw, he's lost a bit of weight. He was quite funny about the fact that he's not exactly a skinny hardbody. As a result of making the movie he's started walking regularly and has improved his diet.

Nothing shocking, but significant I think, that there are two parallel medical systems. One for the elite, and visiting foreigners, and one for the common people. That doesn't surprise me in the least. I will be surprised if Moore points this out.
I think it's also significant that Cubans enjoy a relatively healthy existence largely because they get exercise, and are not overfed.

You see, Day is a "patriot" which means he believes that we, as Americans, are somehow superior to all other people no matter what you say. He also believes that we, as Americans, do everything better than everyone else, no matter what you say. He is a "patriot" and he believes that we are different and separate from the rest of the world and he will not feel safe until we have stomped every other civilization and way of governing into the bloody mud of conquest. All other people are worthless bags of guts that stand in the way of Pax Americana and our God Given Manifest Destiny over all the cultures and peoples of the world.dmw wrote:I didn't really read anything that shocking in the Times piece. Alan - You're full of it. My beliefs in now way resemble what you say they are. I think you need some work on your reading comprehension, or better meds.
dmw - My gross generalizations are based on a general knowledge of how poor people around the world live. They get more exercise, and have lower obesity rates than the well off, with America's poor being the exception. Whether or not one ex-Cuban doctor says there is one system of care for the elite, and another for the common man, I'll take a chance, and say I'd be amazed if there is not.
