gear storage

Post by glbrady44 »

I keep all of my gear in a room in my basemaent with a dehumidifier
running 24/7 . I keep a small reptile humidity guage on the other side of the room and it usually stays between 30 and 60 % .

I also have the room completely blacked out and all gear hangs from
old slings on hooks.

Is all of this proper or should I change something.

That's too dry. All of your soft goods are made of nylon and will dry out. It is now ruined and not safe. I will take it off your hands and dispose of it properly.

all kidding aside, your gear is fine. as long as it's sry before you put it up you shouldn't have any problems with mold, mildew, rope lice, or anything else.

dude, you are a dumbass. Everyone knows that you have to keep your gear stored in a vacuum sealed container with all the O2 exvacuated to avoid long term oxidation and degrading. Your gear is so fucked...

Maybe he pumps the basement full of nitrogen. That would be good.

I store mine in a rodent infested garage next to the gasoline. (Johnny would approve!)

Don't forget to use a powerful UV light to make sure everything is disinfected.

i have old pmi statics all over the place in mammoth cave some of them more than ten years old. Unless a cave rat chews them i'd rap or ascend from any of them. The air there is is nearly 90 percent humid but the uv is zero.
