Yeah, but federal legislation (which is redundant, at least in Illinois) makes you look like you're doing something - even when it won't do any good.
You want action - try this: When 'we' determine that a particular industry is of vital importance to the economy or a whole or to national security, we implement subsidies in one way or another. (You might argue that, even though it's a total disaster, the Iraq war was intended largely as a subsidy to the oil industry.) I say that there can be situations where high prices can be so harmful to the economy as a whole that we should consider 'anti-subsidies'.
That's right beyotches! I'm talking price controls! (Hey, it was good enough for Richard Nixon!)
I just heard on the news that the Chevron on the corner of Baxter and Broadway in Louisville will be selling $1.00/gallon gasoline starting at 6:45 am. Only to the first 200 people there, so if you are up, get over to the Highlands!
pigsteak, You really beleive the "reasons" why gas prices are so high now? They are high because we will pay them. They will keep raising the price for as long as we keep paying for it, and giving us BS reasons that sound true and we can't argue with. We'll see $4.00 this year but they probably won't stay there for long.
your kidding right dmw. Wait, no you were not, that would explain why I rode my bike past a huge traffic jam on broadway on my way to work. It was backed up for over a mile, like one of those oil crisis shots from the seventies.
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
lol...rhunt, you know I don't believe any of that crap they feed us...I am "king cynical". Goes back to us all being insatiable consumers. I did a very unscientific poll on the way to work this AM....I'd say 90% of the cars had one person in them.
Speaking of that, in some cities like Nashville, there are interstates running through downtown with lanes of "Two or more passengers only during X hours." What does that do?
Meadows: It acts as an incentive to carpool, since that lane tends to move the fastest due to not as many cars being in it. I've seen that in other big cities... I think maybe SF and LA?
