Yeah they shouldn't use recycled paper at all, that's just a liberal fad and 43% is failing as far as I can tell. They also should spend more time and energy to bundle magazines without subscription cards to those who don't need subscription cards. They should also add a page or two of shock talk republican spew to sell more issues, screw recycling, what the subscribers need is more opinions and knowledge that has already been thought of for them.

now in typical fashion, lateralus comes late to the party and makes this about recycling....did anyone say in ANY post that recycling was a bad idea or fad?

recycling is usually symptomatic of a gross abuse, misuse or over use of resources...you have a full recycle bin every week? maybe you should try products that don't come in single packets, plastic or shrink wrapped. instead of recycling your paper and plastic bags from the grocery store, here is a novel idea..take the ones from last week BACK to the store and re-use them..why that is even more common sensical than recycling. instead of buying your precious water in individual half liter bottles, buy a brita water filter for your faucet.

recycling is not the answer or problem...over consumption is.

every time I set out our recycle bin and it is almost full, I blush from shame. I am not proud of the fact I recycle. I am ashamed of what I waste.

I don't know, pigsteak. Our recycling bin is full every week, but it's from junk mail, milk cartons, and cardboard boxes that only had one plastic bag inside of them (i.e. cereal, triscuits...). We take bags back to the grocery store and only recycle them once they're so worn through we can't reuse them anymore. We have a water filter and never buy bottled water. The sad truth is, it still piles up.

I do agree that people over consume, though.

not sure if it is true, but I heard that plactic bags consume more oil (non renewable resource) than paper bags (renewable)

thanks for the clarification yasmeen..that was my point, that as a nation, we are over consumers.

junk mail must be profitable to someone on the sending end, so we, the receivers, have to be partially reponsible for it's creation..they are filling a need consumers have created.

I once heard from a postal worker that all the USPS folks return the junk mail (credit cards mostly) pre paid envelopes with nothing in them. It had two effects, 1) It keeps them employed 2) It causes the credit card company to actually have to pay the postage. Apparently if the pre paid envelope is never used they are never charged? I don't know if that's true but if it is I may start doing it!

I've started sending those envelopes back with a letter in them saying something to the effect of "I have no interest in your product and wish to receive no further correspondence from you." Mostly it's been to companies trying to sell mortgage insurance. Every letter is a final notice! or an urgent matter! with them.

Then you usually go on to slam someone or something (usually liberals) and assume (like you've been taught) by doing so this actually adds credibility to your unequalled grasp of the obvious.
