Whats new, and worth to check out?

Post by wigal123 »

Hi everybody...

Me and my wife will drive down from Chicago to the gorge this coming weekend. I have the latest Guidebook but noticed that there are about 400 new routes out there.
Anything special I should check out when I'm there? Something in the 10's and 11's, maybe 12's (haven't climbed in a while, so I don't know :()? And also easier stuff for my wife?

Thank you in advance!

Georg

We've programmed the site such that we don't have to be helpful. So, we try to make the most of that.

Georg--when is the last time you were here? The Gallery in the southern region has a good 5.8, two fun 5.10's (davici's left ear) , a cool 11a, 11c (something different?), and a super cool 11d (gold rush).

The Shire has a spot with a 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 5.10 all in a row. Also a fun 11.

Another spot is the Playground and Left Field--good variety.

You can also check out Muir Valley--Techtonic wall and Johnny's wall (one 9, mostly 10's).

If you want a lot of 11's Shady Grove is steep and shady.

Anyone climbing this Friday? I need someone to climb with on Fri because my husband has to stay in Atlanta and everyone else is going to the New for the Rendezvous. I have people lined up on Sat/Sun.

steep4me: shanks for getting back to me! I have never been to the gorge at all... first timer...

I already marked:

Military Wall (too busy?)
Left Flank
Phantasia
Road side
Bob Marley
Torrent Falls (Then I found out it's closed:()

I guess my expectations are higher than my capabilities at the moment :(

We are gonna be in on fr. so i guess you could hang out with us.... don't know if thats gonna be fun for you though...

Oh! You haven't been to the Red before? Then definitely try out Military (Sunshine, Moonbeam, Fuzzy, Gung Ho, Tissue, Forearm Follies)

Roadside has 4 classic 5.10's starting with AWOL, up yonder is a fun 11b, Ro Shampo is a super classic, Return of chris shnyder, fun, tall 11d. At the end, there are a ton of moderate slab climbs all in a row for your partner to climb.

Phantasia has a fun 5.9--the other two easy climbs are up a different trail. Creepshow and count floyd are good and Twinkie is a classic 5.12a.
