damn! it's funny how pissed people can get over such a little thing. for being something people don't care about they sure get worked up over it. Wes we need to get you out more, you seem angry. i'm sorry we haven't hugged in awhile. i miss you.
i think my main curiosity is were do we draw the lines. if you do tick that is your choice, that is true and climbing has always been about no rules. in a sense. please feel free to tick, (discreetly if possible) but please don't be offended if i ask you to brush it off as you come down.
sorry to bunch your panties up.

and paul. shut up about community. i've never seen compassion at the gorge.

how subtle, using the misleading word "scar" to describe a form of chalk you dislike, yet fully justifying the desired amount of chalk you use on your hands.

your "tick marks is climbing above your head" theory is laughable. let me help you out and see where it goes...

using chalk at all is climbing over your head.

using a rope is climbing over your head.

using sticky rubber is.....

using cams instead of passive pro is....

using spray, guidebooks, commentary from your belayer etc is.....

tick marks are visual pollution, nothing more, nothing less. their use does not lessen your climbing experience any more than your barking dog lessens mine. everytime I drive to roadside and see 15-20 cars parked there, I ponder how many carbon neutral tree huggers in the group car pooled? when I deal with the trash left at the base, your pack thrown on more vegetation, and your piss smell just out of reach of my nostrils, I dream of only having tick marks to ruin my day.

if you hate tick marks, then brush them. and don't forget to always have 4 people in your gas guzzling car. and for god's sake , quit drinking beer cause recycling those glass bottles is spewing poison on mother earth.

come to think of it, those nylon tents have oil by products in their fabric, but let's save that for a rainy day....

I vote for banning all chalk at the Red...any takers?

Anyhow, the reason I usually don't remove tick marks, the route has fixed draws and the steepness makes it a hassle to get back in, .
But feel free to remove them, I know I do when I get on routes
As I have said all along, IT REALLY IS THAT EASY.

just a question... do you remove them or don't you??? you seem to talk out of both sides of your mouth. it's a good trait to have i know. also, if the route has fixed draws, (or doesn't) you do know what a trolley is don't you?? where you clip in to the rope as you lower, so you can...i don't know brush?? That's what I thought when I saw your initial post. But then I realized you're just angry all the time. Maybe you need a brighter toe nail polish with some sparkles and hippie flower designs.

I could care less if a route has tickmarks or no tickmarks and I add one whenever I think I may need it. I brush them when I think about it. Other times I think about it to late, as I am already on the ground. Honestly, they are very low on my priority list. Things much higher on my priorty list would maybe include safety, picking up trash, getting rid of those pesky cheater stones, attempting to stay on trail and not add to all the erosion, etc....

This conversation has really made me think more about tickmarks. I got on my project this weekend and brushed off every tickmark that I didn't use, but I left all my little tickmarks up. (It is C-sharp, if you want to get off the rest of the tickmarks, then next I will move onto progecting B-flat :D )

Yes, Pesky.

I think I am going to start a cheater stone crusade. They really take away from my enjoyment of climbing, and add extra impact at the base of climbs. Not to mention, they are dangerous, one could twist an ankle on such a thing.

I find it extremely rude when people don't remove their cheater stones after using them!! So start taking care of your cheater stones people!

Personally, I like cheater stones and like to place them on every rout whose start is above waist high. I will continue to do this and not think twice about it. If you don't like, move them yourself, but I will likely put it back the following week. They only add to my experience and if you are not willing to risk a twisted ankle once in a while you should not be climbing. :D

I will put tick marks on my cheater stones so I can remember where to put my feet when i step onto my cheater stones.
