I have an inkling that the grigri imbues the user with some faith in the device and thus increases the frequency of incidents. When people relax and then suddenly have to respond, panic likely becomes a negative factor in overall performance. A way to switch the grigri's autoblock to positively affect performance might be not to relax and definitely keep the hand on the brake (when not involved with fast pay out of rope). I am not sure though.
