best post yet Wes.... I, too, let go of the brake on the grigri ALL the time. most times I tie a quick eight in the rope before eating my bagel, many times I do not.

thanks, this ten step program is helping a bunch...

I have an inkling that the grigri imbues the user with some faith in the device and thus increases the frequency of incidents. When people relax and then suddenly have to respond, panic likely becomes a negative factor in overall performance. A way to switch the grigri's autoblock to positively affect performance might be not to relax and definitely keep the hand on the brake (when not involved with fast pay out of rope). I am not sure though.

Pigs, just tie a Munter hitch to the bagel and biner (locking please) your breakfast to your belay loop. How old are those bagels? The safety rating goes WAY up as the weeks go by. :|
