Be Careful with fire!!!!!!!

Post by flashmaster »

Just a little reminder that the woods around here are tinder dry. If you smoke and climb don't put your cigarettes out in the woods and for god's sake dont light your poo paper on fire to get rid of it!!!! pack it out or burry it. I'm saying all this cause there was a fire started at Solar Collector on Sunday. I wont say what started it. But don't light your TP on fire!!! It burned about 3-4 acres but it could have been a lot more if the local crews from lee county didn't get out there quickly. Also the efforts of the climbers that were there that helped to contain it until the county crews arrived was huge. So remember when your out in the woods be CAREFUL with fire. This message was brought to you by your local state forest service, the USFS and the ad council.

Gee, I think I'll go climbing today. Maybe I should try to shit before I leave. Nah! Oh wait, I can still shit when I get there at the rest area or one of the lovely local establishments. Nah!!

Before people try to filet the person who made a mistake let me add that this person and five others went to extraordinary measures to put the fire out after calling the forestry service. They also contacted me and have taken full responsibility for their actions. Contrast this with people who would have left and feigned ignorance. It takes a lot of character to fess up to your mistakes and be willing to suffer the consequences.

That being said. NO intentional fires on the PMRP. 'kay?

Oh and a BIG thanks to flashmaster for coming out and checking things over. I impetuously ran out into the woods to check on the fire crew, not really knowing what the heck I was going to do. It's fantastic to have good people in our community.

Same for Muir Valley.

In the fall of '05, a campfire (set during an outdoor burning ban) ignited and badly burned several acres in M.V. In the past year, we found two more campfires that had been set at bases of climbs.
