Dunkan Rock

Post by atavus »

My daughter and I tried to find Dunkan Rock a few weekends ago, but the directions in the guidebook were a bit vague. We parked at the pulloff for Phantasia and walked back down the road looking for a crag on the left. We saw several that might have been the right one. The valley between the road and the crags was incredibly steep and muddy. We didn't want to work hard getting over there, only to discover it was the wrong place.

Do any of you have better instructions for getting to Dunkan Rock, or maybe a picture of what it looks like from the road?

All the best!

It's pretty much straight across the drainage from Pogue ethics. but walk down the creek untill the other side isnt too steep to walkup and angle back to the left and up. It's not that hard to find but it would suck if it's muddy.

I start from Fortress parking lot and go 2 small pulloffs up hill then down and up the other side angling left. But straight across for Pogue Ethics sounds about right. You will know you have found it if you are standing under a large roof with a beautiful crack through it (Frenchburg Overhangs).

What ynot said. There is a sort of path, but it's very slippery. Basically, head straight down to the creek, go right about 100ft and you'll see somewhat of a path ramping up.

I can't seem to find any pics right now, I guess I don't have them on my work PC.

It's not that bad. Just run out at the top. You can get a good cam at the very top of the crack, then scramble up to the tree to set up your belay.
