Mr. Gabe, I like to sport rappel, and will gladly go Aussie with you. I have lots of experience putting up static line for such a fun sport. I have two pair of fingerless gloves if you'd like to share.
PM me if you'd like to hook up or you know...wink, wink..."hook up".

I was a rappeler long before i starting climbing (i am ashamed to say) learning to climb is an easy transition. as perviously stated you already some gear to get you started and there are many easy routes out there to learn on. as for for the pictures you spoke of think of it like this, who wants to see a picture of some slob doing the easiest route in the gorge. IF YOU LIKE RAPPELING YOU WILL LOVE CLIMBING. also unlike this web site the climbing community is a very friendly and helpful bunch. Good luck.
because i can
Not in front of this bunch anyhoo!heidiramma wrote:okay, i'm just not going to respond to that oneBesides it's more fun going down than going up right??
Learn to climb, Gabe! Go with piggie and be a real climber!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

i think this is what you mean. why is rappelling so god-awful and climbing Ssooo much better? we fucking climb rocks and stuff that you can walk to the top of. path of least resistance my ass. we would anyone love this sport? everyone is an egotistical prick. (included) "i love the earth." "we should cut this tree down and trample the shit out of stuff." just call the guy a slob why don't you. and anyone else that was ever starting out since they must be the only routes worthy of them. if the guidebook authors climb routes like that to have precise information, are they slobs and bums?
fuck climbers
Like me on facebook but hate me in real life
My first trip to the gorge was rappelling. Nothing like letting a couple hundred feet rip through a fast belay device (atc on a single line). Kind of like skydiving. Also, forget the static rope; they are terrible to rappel from. Dynamic is the way to go. If you do do the freefall style rappel lock off 20ft from the ground. A 200ft rope will stretch 20ft or so on a hard stop. Be kind to the trees (wrap the webbing around the tree several times and then wrap the webbing over top itself).
