going to font

hey all i'm gonna be going to fontainebleu for a few days in a couple weeks and i was just curious if anyone has any advice. It's kind of a last minute thing and i don't really know even where to look for info. So any advice or links etc would be great. Thanks a lot.

i'm gonna be in paris on the 16th, and then to font, then leaving on the 21. So prolly climbing the 17tt throw the 20th of march.

My advice is find someone who knows where the classics are. The place is so large it is overwhelming so the best thing to do would be to try to hit all the classics. Have fun though. It's the best in the world.

that sucks (for me) i think school will interfere, but i might be able to get free. my friends over here tell me to avoid bas culvier unless you like hienously pollished and poofy rock.

get a car, font is more like the red with a large number of areas far apart from each other than smith where everything is in one spot

if you can't get a car, let me know and i can dig through my guide and let you know the areas you can walk to

bas cuvier has a bunch of classics and shouldn't be overlooked however there are tons of other amazing areas.

dont' worry about grades, play with the circuits. it is a different approach to bouldering and unless you have an incredible slopey vertical tech footwork style fot generally serves up a beat down.

if you have friends get a gite, you can get one for the same price as camping if you split it a bunch of ways and the living is way better.

if you have a car but not friends and don't want to lug camping stuff, check out the formula 1 hotel. you pay a machine with a credit card and climbers share the rooms so you can sleep for like 4 euro a night, and the climbers all cook out in front in the morning, so it is a good way to keep costs down.

buy lots of wine and pastries

There are font bouldering guides for sale in town. I think there's an outdoor equipment store in font, and there's also a tourist center of some sort that also sold guidebooks when I was there (they also rent bikes).

Study maps before you go, don't get lost like I did!

rent a car and buy the best road map you can find. the guidebook is great once your at a place but getting there can be tricky, esp if you dont speak french. once your at an area toss the damn guidebook and explore and do as many circuits as you can. font is truly magical. i agree with merrick, eat as much as you can and try as many wines as you can. the castle is more than worth the price to get in. dont stick to the popular area, go explore the obscure areas and you will get to see more of the country side. leave your ego at home, its the hardest place to climb i have been to. enjoy !
