I like those ideas, too. Good thinking, Phil.

thats funny, we had t shirts brought in yesterday with I "big heart" jugs with a bolt and draw hanging, along with a few other styles.

i think t's are a great way to go for promoting the red/rrgcc. phil, as scary as it is i really like some of your ideas on t's. lets talk about the shirts and your ideas and we can get this rolling fast.

One thing to note: the Events page ( http://www.redriverclimbing.com/fundraiser/events.php ) that is linked to from the front page still has the total from 2006 on it. We should update that to reflect the 2007 total, so that people don't get confused and think the 2007 goal has been reached. Michelle/Ray - if you guys don't have time, I'm happy to update the page. Just let me know.

um... thanks RRO. If i didn't live 10 hours from the red and wasn't buried in grad school work I'd put some time into the designs and try to help a bit more but I am just an ideas man at this point, plus i'm an engineer, not an artist. hopefully someone with artistic skill can take the ideas and run with them. i'll do some work on designs if i get the time.

As far as t-shirts I would rather see them sold separately than be part of the membership. When you receive goods or services in return for a donation you are supposed to discount the value of what you receive from the donation when you report it on your tax return. Otherwise t-shirts were one of the very successful methods of fundraising that worked in last years campaign.

We still want to get people schwag but have been following a strategy of separating that from the donation process. For example we have given out hats and bouldering brushes. We have also talked about getting some RRGCC beer coozies made to give out. When you give out schwag to anyone, member or not, it gives everyone a sense of belonging and that person who is not yet a member might be moved to make a donation.

We definitely want to develop some special benefits of membership. This was discussed in our planning meetings.

These are just my own thoughts and please post any further comments or ideas you have.

You make a good point about discounting the value of the goods/services when filing your taxes, Static. I also like what you said about handing swag out to non-members as well as members and the reasoning behind it.

For the record, I'd buy another PMRP baby tee if there was a 2007 batch. :)

Why do they call it schwag? When I think of schwag, I don't think of cool climbing doohickies, I think of dirty brown crap that came in a brick from mexico.

true but only slightly. for instance, check out the access fund's site. they're tshirts have no taxable value. i'm going to look into that one today.. (where's our tax experts?) and i think it really become an issue only when you're giving more than $250 at once or more than $500 a year since you don't have to itemize until those points (again, tax people correct me..)
and great loves will one day have to part -smashing pumpkins
