For all you happy gun owners.........

Post by gunslnga »

This is the current bill being pushed by the Dems/Libs, thay have went fucking crazy this time. The Clinton Gun Ban was a joke last time, so this tme, they added everything they couldnt get last time. I have researched this on several sites, both for and against, this was the best at explaining it on a whole:

The Most Sweeping Gun Ban Ever Introduced In Congress; McCarthy Bill Bans Millions More Guns Than The Clinton Gun Ban

Saturday, February 24, 2007

On Feb. 14, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, “to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.â€

The bill hasn't garnered a single co-sponsor yet. If it limps out of commitee, it would be radically different. There's not going to be much support from either side IMO. I think the party has moved on. No way it's re-authorized even in with a Democratic majority.

Gulliver, I hope your right, I personally don't think everyone needs an AK-47 or an M-16, but if they're legally bought, legally and safely used, then who cares. The crime facts show these guns are not being used in alot of crimes anyway. To me it's no different than you wanting to drive Toyota and me a Chevy, it's all personal preference.

I'm with you on objecting to banning particular "names" or models of guns. That's just lousy legislation.

I think that we all agree that SOME limits should be placed on what weapons normal citizens should be allowed to have. For example, we all agree that no one (except the oh-so-trustworthy government) should be allowed to have nuclear bombs, despite the vague phrasing of the Second Amendment. Similarly, we are generally in agreement that your neighborhood meth cooker shouldn't be allowed to have some huge caliber, gajillion rounds per second machine gun.

The questions at hand are 1) where should we draw the line? and 2) how should this limit be implemented?

One way to answer the first question is "If I were a drug lord and I wanted to be able to stage effective gun battles with a big city police force, what guns would I want?" or "If I was going to walk into a school and kill as many kids as possible before the police arrived, what guns would I use?" and ban those weapons.

The second question (how to implement limits) is probably even harder to answer than the first. 20's Prohibition was a bad joke. I'm probably closest to being in agreement with all you 'gun lovers' in that passing these sorts of bans are just hard to implement and would likely drive a lot of scary weapons out of the pickup truck gun racks of "law abiding citizens" and into circulation in the not-so-law-abiding community.
