Just saw on the news that Gov. Fletcher is trying to get a bill pushed through the legislature that would provide a tax credit for land owners that hold their land open for fishing and hunting. This would be similar to the recreational land use statute that limits landowner liability for accidents that occur on their property while people are on it for recreational purposes (say, climbing, maybe).
My point: if this bill is being pushed by the gov. and on the news, it has a good chance of making it and this would be a great opportunity to get climbing tacked onto uses given a tax credit. This would be a great move for access. Start cranking out those letters.

The news report said the tax reliefs could be for up to $250,000. Granted, that would have to be a helluva piece of land to even need a credit that large, but if it gave landowners any sort of financial incentive to let people climb, it could be a great help.
I've check through the current bills in House and Senate and Committees where I thought this bill might be sitting, but haven't yet been able to locate. I'll keep looking so we can actually refer our Elected Officials to something when we start lobbying.

The bill hasn't been filed yet, but is set to be sponsored by Rep. Robin Webb, D-Grayson, and Sen. Gary Tapp, R-Shelbyville.

It'll be a long day, and I won't be able to stay long, but I think I can make the rally. If anyone else from Lex wants to ride, just PM me. I'll have to be back by 3.Spragwa wrote:There is a rally at the Capitol in Frankfort on February 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m.
