Kentucky Ice

i bet some ice is closer to you than you think fred. i bet the slab at the start of slab camp has formed ?

I've found some decent ice flows at a cliff located behind the church on the left past miguels and across from torrent. Not the best directions but you can figure it out. From the parking lot, hike back past the picnic area, then bushwack up the hill, find the cliff, walk right for about 5-10 minutes. I've found as many as 4 good WI4 flows about 40 -50 feet long. Nothing I would lead.......too thin....... probably could not take stubbies. A couple of decent mixed moves too. I've attempted drytooling back there too, but it was terrifying on sandstone.

There is also good ice on the roadcut in Garrard County Highway 34. Follow US 27 south past Nicholasville and into Garrard county. Take Right at the BP station onto 34. Couple of miles down on the left is a tiered section of roadcut that frequently comes into shape. We installed some rebar at the top for anchors. It may be still there.

The only Kentucky Ice worth messing with is the kind that comes in a glass with some Woodford Reserve. Or that is on a rink somewhere inside.

there's plenty of icy slopes at Perfect North if that interests you. I'm still bruised!

Did they have the terrain park up and running when you went? I haven't checked out Perfect North's, but there were some really cool ones when I was in Utah last month. I don't think I would have had the guts to try jumps if my brother hadn't talked me into it, but it was fun!

RRO John E is not me but i bet you are right about the ice in slab camp being formed up. Also ice all over the counties in and around the gorge is begining to form up. condition are prime and just getting better. road cuts offer some good oppurtunity but my bet is on creeks that have big drops. my problem is the lack of tools. anyone who has tools and wants someone to point out fat ice let me know (eg. pm me) I am hoping to borrrow a set so may i will have my own set.

Looks like things are shaping up! Current forcasts call for continued cold thru next week. I may hold off until then. Things should be fat if the weather holds out.
