Backpacking Sores

Post by Josephine »

So to try and become a slightly better hiker (i suck majorly as anyone i've climbed w/can attest), I've started hiking for about an hour a day for 6 days a week w/my pack. after about 12 days of this, i'm starting to get small sores on my hips right at the bottom of my hip straps.

i don't want to get a new pack - the pack seems fine - osprey female fit (whatever that's worth). I also don't want to reduce the weight since i'm just carrying stuff i would carry to a crag.

any ideas on how to either prevent this, or what to do after i get them?

Heal up, let the callus build, then go back to it it with less weight and gradually add more - um sorry, nevermind.

It could be that the pack needs to be adjusted slightly to take the weight off these pressure points. It could be a slight adjustment to one of the stays in the back or a change in the position of the hip belt. Another option could be the way your pack is loaded. You should have the heavier items higher up on your back and not riding low.

Take the pack back to where you bought it and have them size and adjust it for you.

Good luck.
