Update from Zac

Here is an email I just got from Zac, poor kid. Life on the road....


So on sunday i flew to mallorca spain, an island off the south coast in the
Med sea. There is sick limestone climbing there, beautiful beaches, all
around just a badass place. After getting into the airport at night and
sleeping there. I caught a bus to a small village called bunyola which is in
the mountain region in the center of the island. I headed for a crag called
Sa Gubia, which is the biggest one on the island with about 200 routes
spread over a good size area. I had to walk about 5km to the trail head
carrying a pack with a tent, sleeping gear, food, stove and fuel, few
clothes, 3 liters of water, rope, 14draws, harness, 2 pairs of shoes and
some other random shit. About 70lbs or so. I started in planning on finding
some place to camp, hang out there, and hopefully meet some people to climb
with, being that its the biggest crag i figured it was my best bet. The
approach trail followed a dry stream bed and was pretty flat for the first
Km. Then it started to get steep, real rocky and involved alot of scrambling
and was way to hard with all that shit. So i took only what needed to set up
camp, my tent, sleeping gear, and cooking supplies. Everything else, all my
climbing gear, food, fuel, and most of my water i stuffed in my rope bag and
left there off to the side of the trail. I headed out and spent about 4
hours hiking around the area, looking for a camping place, and checking out
the climbing, which was amazing!!!! beautiful lines, streaming tufas, just
sick!!! I couldnt find anywhere to camp!! no flat ground, all scrub brush
with basketball sized boulder littering the ground, and i saw no other
climbers that could point me in a good direction. By that time it was
getting dark and i figured i had better go back to the main trail, get my
shit, cook some food, I WAS STARVING!! bivy some where and start over in the
morning. So evryones saying, wow, how cool, that place sounds amazing, but
you might be asking youself why you are getting an email from me on
thursday, if i was just in spain on monday??, why i am not there climbing???
Well, beacuse when i made it back to where i had stashed my shit.... MY SHIT
WAS GONE!!!!!!
Yes, i dont know how, it was the middle of fucking nowhere, there was some
farms in the area but nothing and no one around. And i knew exactly where i
put my stuff. So after that, long story short. I waited at the main road for
2 hours, and no cars or people came out the small road you walk down to get
to the trail. By that time there was no more busses, so i walked about 20km
to Palma(the capital city where i started from) called angelika, she got me
a flight back for wednesday morning. That night i slept on a park bench in
the city, on tuesday i just walked around palma, checked out the city, went
to a beach and chilled then went to the airport, slept there, and now im
back in köln. All in all i lost my rope and bag, 12 spirits, some slings,
some lockers, a reverso, my new harness, 2 pairs of shoes, my food, MSR fuel
bottle, couple nalgenes and some other small shit.
Shit happens.......
