Post by semeseu »

Any suggestions on what brand of rope to buy. I'm replacing my first rope which i bought used. I don't know which brand is the best.

i have an edelweiss access 60m - for the price i thought it was pretty good. would have preferred a bi-color, though.

I've got a sterling bicolor, 60 m. The bicolor is great for when you rap off a tall climb... you know you're at the center of the rope.

Edelweiss sucks.... Get a sterling or mammut. 10.whatever X 60m. Bi-color's nice if you wanna forkover the green. Climbing tape works well as a midpoint marker too.

Mgear has a great deal right now on a 60m Bluewater 10.2. Bluewater ropes handle really well.

The Sterling marathon(10.6,60m) has a 50% thicker sheath than normal. Holds up great to frequent use and handles as well as any rope I've used.
It is a little pricey but my first one took 2 years of steady use (25-30 weekends a year) before it started fuzzing.

I have a Beal 10.2 that I have climbed on for over a year and I just cut it yesterday for the first time. I'm hard on ropes too. I take big whips and climb at least twice a week. I'm amazed that this rope is still in such great shape.

i like mummuts - they are really good handling even when 1st used but they are pretty expensive so i use sterling.
