late........

Post by Spoonman »

I first climbed at Torrent Falls in 1992. The trail used to start on the far left. You would walk all the way around the falls to get to the 11 & 12 wall. Kathy's father bought it around 1993 or so. The place was closed for three years or so. During this time, the B & B (their home) was built. I think Kathy's dad opened it up before he sold it to them, but I am not sure.

Anyway, Mark and Kathy have been very generous for over ten years now. Calling Mark un-climber friendly is absurd. Calling Mark unfriendly in any manner is absurd. He is pretty cool.

FYI ...... Kathy was in very bad ( seriously ill) health a couple years back. I can not think that the climbers (constant noise and hassel) helped at all, yet they still let us climb. Why?

They are really nice people.

I usually rent the small "John Deere" cabin once or twice a year. My daughter loves the room, and I also. She loves the hot tub even more. I will no doubt rent it again. I will rent it but not to climb. I will rent it because it is nice and the hosts are great.

That being said.........I love all the climbs at Torrent. A few are my favorites. I think I have climbed banaolier somehere near 225 times now. Best warm up in the RED. I may have the record for Bare metal teen. 178 red points. One of the best training routes in the Red! (I do climb elsewhere?)

For climbers,.........we could do a much better job! The toilet paper around the far end of the Lode is one example. It's ok to piss in the woods, but bring a plastic bag for your tissue.

I do not think we need to beat ourselves up over Torrent, but I sure hope we can learn. Proximity (to the road, to the house, to paying customers), the increases in new climbers, etc.: Unfortunately it was bound to happen, and had already before.

Personally, I am totally thankful for many great days.

We all know how the handle "The Business" on a route. Check this video on one way to handle the other business - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qef2Od-DTaI

The fact that the vast majority of posts have nothing but good things to say about Mark and family, after Torrent closing, speaks volumes about the good nature of Mark.

I'm surprised that somebody hasn't offered to write a song about it.

Just Say Thank You, And Move On.......

I like it. :D
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Thanks and gratitude accepted. To our friends, you are always welcome in our home. Jeff and Theresa stopped by last night. We wish them the best with their new log home in the woods.

My family says Thank You for the opportunity to meet some wonderful people out here in the middle of nowhere. That is the primary reason for keeping Torrent open so long was for the good people.

I am really going out on a limb now.

........ Thanks JR (Anitclimber). I will keep gunner where he lies. He is mine now.

Ok, you can go back to dicklicking. Now I know where gunner picked up the habit.

Anti, you are even welcome back to my home. Just remember, since you have been gone, I have reloaded my shot gun.
