So I saw people toproping on the anchors at Military...

Access, Rehab Projects, Derbyfests and more...

yeah, i learned that you are a sick elitist prude.

ok, time to come clean. karen and I were on our last climb of the day on saturday...a group of three dudes walks up and asks if we are about finished on this line....I say yes, and ask if they plan on getting on it. They say yes, and ask for the way to get to the top to set up a TR. I mention that there is no easy way up, that we can just transfer their rope to a couple of their draws, and then they can clean it when finished. I thyen asked if they knew how to do a transfer...the one dude hesitated and said...'sort of"...the other two were first timers...

so since I am an ethical guy who wanted to get to the party at RRO to show I care about non climbers in the gorge, did I just run their rope though the chains? nope, I made my wife do it.

rro, did you learn anything today? never do the dirty deed when you can blame another. ( this is just one of many hypocrisies that I call my pathetic life.)

Whining about people toproping through anchors and then taking victory whips on same is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Toproping through the anchors does very little damage. Its lowering off that causes the wear and tear.

Pulling your rope through the anchor to set up a rappel does basically as much damage as a toprope.

I only toprope on the anchors that I've installed. Fuck it, they're mine right? And for every dollar I drop in the team suck fund, I take a top rope run on something. Also, when I pick up litter, I take another. Also when I use the porta-potty at torrent. And when I don't bring a dog, I do another few laps. I'm a contributor, you know?

How can you take a victory whip on top rope, my friend?

I mean, its not going to be a whip, and it certainly isn't a victory?

just for shits and giggles. lets take a group that we all usually see tr'ing thru anchors, 4-5 newbies out for a wonderful day on the rocks.each of them take 2 laps on sunshine, hangdogging, power belaying and so on. your saying that if each of them tr the route in the chains/links that more or the same amount of wear would happen if they tr'd thru biners then cleaned, rapped and pulled the rope. no way in hell dude.

now if you say tr'ing thru the anchors without falling and a loose belay would be as bad as pulling the rope then i may buy it it. BUT the majority of people doing this will not tr the route clean. if you took sunshine and moonbeam and tell everyone to tr thru the links on one and not the other and even with not eliminating lowering when you clean i would bet just about all i own the one with tring thru the anchor would wear out way faster.
