If you're refering to the Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) meetings then naw I don't think this is the same thing at all. The LAC process engages the public on how to manage recration on the forest. Nothing done in secret at these meetings, joe blow citizen is encourged to attend.pigsteak wrote:I just assumed these were the meetings that Bill and Shannon always go to....
any forest service feedback on this?
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
The NPS, BLM and USFS are poorly under-funded. Thats the bottom line, but with a more environmentally-friendly congress, I wouldnt expect to see privatization or excess fees any time soon. Our taxes already take care of this stuff, the $$ is just not going where it should.

Southern Utah - Where the women are men and the sheep are scared
Looks to me like a simple case of corruption. If 85% of appropriated funds are withheld without even an explanation, someone should be doing jail time for fruadulent theft of about 131,750,000 dollars.
I would love to find info about this that comes from more than just this one guy.

Or law enforcement, NEPA enforcement, and basic public lands management like oversight for the oil and gas induistry and illegal ATV routes that the agencies can't handle because of lack of staffing. Get on the ground, or do a little research. Yep, a bunch of "crap"! One example surely means that all is well. Ha.which is exactly why there is no money for more staffing or projects... often poorly managed minimal budgets.
I deal with this every day. It's frustrating to see the good people who work for our public land mgmt agancies like the USFS that have their hands tied from top down mgmt decisions and no funding.

The only "recreation area" closures that I know of on the former Stanton District were the removal of the Tarr Ridge & Rock Bridge picnic areas. The were noticed for public input in the Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA): http://www.fs.fed.us/sopa/components/re ... 07.html#32. You should also note the Red River Gorge Trailhed Improvement in this SOPA. This $90,000 project was financed by an earmark obtained by congressman Hal Rogers.
