Should there be a sign and donation drop box at the entrance to the PMRP or a Miguel's?

Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve Donations

Post by steep4me »

I have noticed that many people who climb at the PMRP are not aware that this land is owned by the coalition and that they need donations to keep it open.

Maybe there are some ways to alert people (like a big sign explaining this and giving them a place to drop some cash before they enter the area),or a sign and drop box at Miguel's that lists the different walls in the area and asks for donations.

It is easy for people to climb there and be oblivious :? about how much it costs to keep it open. It is also not as likely that people will donate if they do not have to do it on the spot. By the time they get home and back to work, they don't remember to get on the computer and pay online. :x

Maybe there's a way to get a hold of some of those drop boxes that the state parks use--they are difficult to break into.

What do people think? :?:

A donation box at the crag would get robbed. but signs would be a good idea.

reach high would be the first to rob them.

huge signs are a great idea in the parking lot...something that says "free climbing isn't free"

or better yet, make climibng in the preserve by members only. you pay $50 a year or go somewhere else. man, would I be a great board member or what?

Cheap beer gets expensive sometimes.

Along with giving a paypal and mailing address, local cash donation places need to be listed. A box full of cash sitting out at the crag would be just to easy of a target.

thats a great idea.

you could do the same kind of deal where you could buy one day, 3 day or full year. Plus this would really help out with paying off the loan.

i'm all for donating to PMRP - but at the same time - an awareness campaign could work just as well as a donation box. i'm still new at the game, but once i figured out about what RRGCC was doing i set up a small donation through my bank's bill pay service. that way, every month i automatically pay just a little bit and i don't forget (which for me is easy to do!) - and over the year it will add up. but a collection box @ miguels could do the same thing - a little bit of money from a lot of people over time adds up.

i must say - i climbed there for the first time last sunday and it sure is beautiful!!! :D
