Route tags
Route tags
Are routes in Muir still tagged and if they are, what is the meaning of each color? I did a search for this info and failed to find anything.

check with Rick for specifics. but my latest understanding was tags were originally being put on the first bolt when a route was re-opened. Then, tags were falling off as draws were hung and cutting the ribbon, thereby causing confusion. So most of Muir Valley is open.
I do know there were a few routes at the Solarium and Sanctuary that were closed still, but otherwise all cleared.

All the routes except for a few at the Sanctuary and Solarium are open. The Muir Valley Online Route Guide (http://www.muirvalley.com/muirvalley_guide.php) lists all open and closed routes in the valley, as well as other useful info. It also provides a route search function and a real time pdf generator to create a mini guidebook for those routes one selects using the search tool.Meadows wrote:Are routes in Muir still tagged and if they are, what is the meaning of each color? We’ve received a number of questions regarding the status and results of hardware inspection in Muir Valley, as well as questions regarding which routes have reopened. Over the past few months, almost all of the bolts and anchor hardware in the Valley have been visually inspected and checked for appropriate torque values. About 12 of the steeper routes remain temporarily closed until their bolts have been inspected and/or replaced with glue-ins. (Any volunteers?) The remaining 220+ open routes have been checked and reopened.
The MV Route Developers’ Database provides an inventory of every piece of hardware on every route and the inspection results of each piece. Of the 1673 bolts inspected this year, only four were found to be “loose, â€

The Muir Valley Online Route Guide shows Urban Voodoo, Summer Sunshine, So Long Mr. Petey, and Super Best Friends temporarily closed. They will reopen when we find someone to check the existing bolts and install glue-ins where appropriate.
