I'm a 5.x Climber!
Alright, check it out brian- here's what I said:
Being a 5.x climber (Ie, solid on any type of ground) is only an IMPORTANT (key word) distinction if you are climbing something dangerous.
IT's (being a 5.x climber) just for show if its clipping (safe routes)
Meaning that calling yourself a 5.x climber when you only clip -is to show abilities, not to make an IMPORTANT distinction. (ie, are you getting into dangerous territory? heading off on a dangerous lead?)

"Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."
Superior? who are you kidding? Number of extremely dangerous route climbed by me = 0. Number of 5.12's climbed by me = 0. number of long routes done by me = 0. If I have not done any of those things, why would I say what I did? to make myself feel superior? How the heck would it make me feel superior to call myself limited?
"Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."
Lets try this again, for those who are a little crabby today.
If you are climbing safe routes, calling yourself 5.x is to show ability, (parhaps so you can find the right partner, decide what to do for the day, whatever), not to KEEP YOU ALIVE.
For a motherFin example.
(at base of safe climb, sport or trad)
'hmmm, jonny, should I go up dis here crack? I all the squeezers for it! but wait! I'm only a 5.x climber and this is a 5.y'
'sound like a good idea bob. don't worry, you can fall and still live. It dont matter.'
OR
(at base of climb of unknown difficulty or extreme length or extreme danger)
' hmm, jonny, shoud I go up dis here thing? I got all the squeezers for it! I'm a 5.x climber, but this is a 5.y'
'sound like a bad plan bob. the runout is really long, and if you ain't solid on it, you might hurt yourself'
If that dont make sense, your just jaded.
It has nothing to do with sport or trad.
