As we were pulling out of Mark's on saturday night, I saw a snake in the drive. It's silouhette was obvious and it started to slither for its life. My driver was talking and oblivious to it and well, it was smashed.

Yeah sorta. Since KY has some pretty mild winters its not unusual to see snakes out sunning themselves on a warm day in November or December. I don' think they really hibernate per say, but just get less active as it gets cold. A a brighter note, when it is cold they're more concerned with staying warm than biting climbers.
A couple of weeks ago Jill and I saw a couple of pinky sized snakes at the Playground, guess that big one rdpooints saw was mama!
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
Saw 6 baby copperheads at the base of "Father and Son" on Sunday. The den was under a rock next to that smallish tree where most people belay. No sign of mom though. They are obviously still sticking close to the den as they were very young so definitely watch your step on the ledge where Father and Son, Kentucky Pinstripe and Vision are located.
