LOL well hell, that makes me feel pretty damn good about myself then!SCIN wrote:In my eyes, yes.Lynne wrote:well since I suck equally at trad and sport, it works for me. However there are many incredibly accomplished climbers who have never jammed a crack (and never will). So if someone onsights 5.13x sport, are they only a ~5.4 climber?
I don't think so.
I'm a 5.x Climber!
Because I focus my efforts on being a well rounded climber, of course I'm going to judge others that way. Why would I look at others any different than what I feel is important?
I feel that one of the best climbers in the world is Ron Kauk. Has he done 5.15? Nope. But he is a very accomplished and well rounded rock climber. Many kids have no idea who he is.

You shouldn't. And your questions are good, because clearly many people rate themselves under a different set of criteria. That is why I think that when you are hooking up with someone for the first time, you have to specify what you mean. Especially you bad asses!SCIN wrote:Because I focus my efforts on being a well rounded climber, of course I'm going to judge others that way. I think being a well rounded climber is important, too, but I do know people who choose to "only" boulder or sport climb and I respect their pursuits. Just not as much as I do someone who is accomplished in all types of climbing.
NOt everyone has the time to focus on all three areas, sport, trad, bouldering. I certainly would not change my opinion of someone that I would rate a solid climber any differently if they just concentration on sport, for example. Sure I would love to be a well rounded climber technically but I tend to lean moretowards bouldering but still work at sport/trad. Plus I am not out there tearing up the rock looking for sponsorship, name recognition, blah blah blah. I am out there enjoying the sports, my friends, and my husband. It's a package deal.
So my point being that it all comes down to each individual's agenda will determine how well rounded of a climber they can become! Hell I'm round enough as it is

Just genuinely disengenuous.
See "You Suck, I Suck Everything Sucks" for a humourous quote about how stupid this thread is....
Climbing is about individualism and how we push ourselves to be better than we are, not better than others around us, PERIOD!

Lest we all forget... climbing is a mostly meaningless pursuit that we do for fun.
