The last couple of days when I have come to this site I am not automatically logged in. Is this a website problem or did my company update their firewall? Just thought I'd ask.
Not automatically logged in recently.......

Zemkat and I have been investigating this.
After a long and hard search we have determined that there are only two lines of code in the entire board that can cause the error, and neither of them appears to be the problem. Logically therefore we can conclude that we are being automatically logged in.
Actually what appears to happen is that your "here is my login and password" cookie is rewritten after you look at every page, and on about 1 page in 100, it gets overwritten with "i have no login or password". After about 1 hour of you not checking the board (or when you close your web-browser), the board forgets about you.
If you want to look at your cookies (for this board) you can go to:

Johnny (or anyone): You might notice that when you view the website, it is slightly tailored to you (you get to read your private messages, not Horatio's, heaven forbid). It's pretty tricky for the website to figure out who is who. Part of it is done on Ray's computer, but part is done on yours. When it comes down to figuring out who is who, it is often better to let your computer handle it, than to let Ray's handle all these users at home/work etc. Cookies are how your computer tells the website who "you" are.
That phpbb2mysql_data nonsense has your userid and your password (all mixed up) and gets sent to the website as proof of who you are every time you load a page. Basically it's like a little ticket stub, and you get a new stub every time you come back in.
The dorky part is that the website tells you what to tell it. And sometimes the website gets it wrong (that is, it resets your _data to be blank). In the ticket stub analogy, sometimes the ticket-taker hands you a gum wrapper instead. I don't know why, yet.

perhaps, then, it is a browser issue? I am using IE 6.0 and am not having this problem ever. Which browser/version are those of you who are having this problem using and/or did you try clearing your cookies yet?
John, cookies can be found in your internet options - either on your browser menu under Tools or in your Control Panel (same difference in the end). Poke around until you find a button that says "delete cookies" and press it. Note however that any other sites which remember you will need to be reminded who you are after you do this so you will need to sign back in.

Well it doesn't sound like it's the browser or that it could even be the OS, so perhaps it has to do with the way some people's profile's are set up (aka the board's got a bug), or perhaps even the access levels we have?
SO, will everyone who is having this problem please post the following info:
- is this happening only on one computer, or all that you use (this may be the best clue)
- what browser and version are you using (for grins)
- what OS are you using (ditto)
We can look at profile settings for users with this problem on multiple computers, compare them to mine since I'm not having the problem, and maybe that will help? We should also look at another user who is not having this problem who views the BBS from multiple computers with an auto logon, since I only use one now. Anyone?
