Home Security Systems

What are your thoughts? Good idea? Unnecessary? It'd be interesting to hear people's reasons on why they do or don't have one.

Mine's name is Dakota. I highly recommend it.

Very necessary. I came home one day to find our back door busted in and our house cleaned out. Although it was a nice house, it was in a sketchy area.

In another case, my friend who is a doctor and lives in McMansionville never used her system. A woman picked the lock and made off with lots of expensive jewelry (a neighbor saw her leaving the house).

The part that stinks is when the alarms are set off accidently (i.e. it detected the motion of a bird or something). If your dog is locked in the house, it could be very bad for them.

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

While I think she's one of the coolest alarms in the country, I don't have the patience to train my alarm the way you did. ;)

Thanks for the beta/insight, Meadows. Yikes.

Not necessary and I say that as someone who was robbed about 15 years ago. The robbers took a lot of stuff and destroyed our house on the process. Still I think good home owners/renters insurance would be better than a home security system.

I've learned to just not own anything. I only own a bed, truck, motorcycle and trad rack, Everthing else is under $100. I've been broken in to only to have nothing but change and a bad VCR taken.
