Gee guess what, all you runners are fools. I used your little calorie counter to determine that a 210lb person burns more calories walking a 25 minute mile than a runner does running a 7 minute mile. I guess moon beam and piggie are right huh, no need to exercise just sit around and drink beer at 8000ft. for a week.
I've got a whole new training program now, I think I'll eat twinkies, Pudding and little debbies pies while I suck down Ale 8s and brews. I'll walk to the store to buy them and burn awesome calories while truning all that SH*T food into brute strength by walking a 25 minute mile. Better yet I bet if I stop moving all together except to type on this keyboard I can burn more calories than an olympic marathoner. Damn I'll be able to climb K2 by the spring if I just hangout at the base for a week in May.
What's your VO2 max? Calc. your real respiratory condition.
Ahhh. But, that wasn't the scenerio....OB Juan wrote:If you don't have the endurance and proper condition to do long multipitch routes it doesn't matter if you acclimatize for a week or a month for that matter
pigsteak wrote:if you can't onsight 12's, no need to measure VO max..just get out and climb
OB Juan wrote:Really Piggie no need to measure V02 max! There is if you climb outside the 1 pitch climbs in the gorge. Try the east face of Whitney, or say some where in Yosemite, or any where theres more the 100 ft of elevation at even a 5.10. Ya damn well better have some endurance.
I'd even go so far as to say that if you could climb multi-pitch in the gorge, then acclimatizationmoonbeam wrote:Or just acclimatize.
could take care of multi-pitch in Yosemite. I'm not saying training is a bad thing, it just might
not be all that needed to get the fun done.
And on the other hand - you could be in pretty good shape here and still get you ass handed to
you at elevation until you generate a few more red blood cells.
Moonbeam,
The scenario was that people could measure their V02 max using the formula that I posted following a simple 1.5 mile maximal running effort.
NO BIG TRAINING PROGRAM as you asserted in your tort. I stated that if you don't have the endurance to climb long multi pitch it doen't matter if you acclimatize. You assert that this is a thread about a big climbing program. Piggie asserts that if you can't climb a 5.12 you don't need V02.
Your logic is faulty, you've compared a multi pitch climb in the gorge (what a couple hundred feet max) to multi pitch climbing in yosemite ( what 1000 ft or more). If you can't handle 1000 ft it doesn't matter if you acclimatize.
Aerobic respiration matters in any event lasting over 3-4 minutes, knowing ones Vo2 max is valuable if the intent is to perform endurance climbs.
Nice try to change the topic!

Hey, makes as much sense to me as your formula for V02 max. In your words, I think that your above reasoning is faulty. Go do some research and report back to us. Better yet, don't.
