I was thinking more along the lines of Tuolumne Meadows. And more to
the point - If a person's only desire is to hike up to the cliff and climb
single pitch 5.12 at the Gorge's 800ft (?) elevation, then if they do the
same routine at 8,000ft in Tuolumne Meadows for a week or so, wouldn't
acclimatization take care of it without some big fitness program?
Can anyone beat my 63? if you can't beat me on the field (or in this case on the rock), you can always beat me off (if you are female and have a good personality/sense of humor, attitude is a plus). Just trying to rekindle the magic of spraying our vital stats on this thread as it was intended. Maybe they can get a VO2 Maxfinder booth setup at rocktoberfest? just a suggestion. can i bring my inhaler?

anyone have experience with a Suunto HR monitor? I'll buy ya some fine brews if you can get mine squared away, like starting with setting the damn time

I don't think anyone can burn 700-900 calories with 10 minutes of running. Webmd's calorie counter gave a number closer to what I was expecting.

It is possible by: running in prison shackles, while wearing the stylist prison duds (modified to perform like the sweat suits wrestlers wear when cutting weight) and pulling a parachute. of course burning 700 calories will also require the track to be both uphill, greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit (with similar humidity), and a 40 mph head wind. if done correctly you can both burn 702 calories, and rack up a VO2 of 63 : 8) I'll show you my prisonbreak video later when RRC threads can accomodate video streams.

Did your calorie counter consider that your effort should be maximal? Did it also calculate the calories that would be burned in the first hour following the effort while the body recovers, something the physiologically requires about 24hours to complete? I didn't think so. Just because you stop moving your feet doesn't mean your metabolism slams on the breaks back to resting in 30 seconds, you continue burning calories at an accelerated rate well after the effort is complete and slowly return to resting over many hours. Just FYI! the bodies metabolism remains significantly elevated for 2-3 hours minimum.
But hell, you don't need to know if your in shape anyway. Screw it, just walk up to 8000 ft hang a round for a week and you'll be able to climb what ever you want.
