totally stupid, and he could have closed access for everyone... besides, i thought a true solo meant you topped out, not trailed a rope behind you

BOHICA soloed

Post by heavyc »

incredibly irresponsible, soloist with a brain solo on rock more reliable than sandstone, a fall along with resulting in his death or at least completely debilitating him for life would also likely result in closure of the motherlode permanently, there is nothing admirable about this

I'm sure if it was John Bachar everyone would be okay with it.

Yea he didn't top it out he may as well have aided it. That is some crazy shit. I can remember the first cave route being red pointed and now one has been soloed. It shows progression in the sport.

The closure thing would suck though. Never though about that.

I personally respect his effort. I tried (and failed miserably) that route this past summer and there are some kind of big moves way off the deck on it. I don't know how hard he's climbing now, but he wasn't climbing much harder than that when I was bumming around down there. Whether you think it's stupid or not, most people don't solo anywhere close to their limit and there's something to say for that. Nice work Greg.

what's up with all the crap about "the community"? you all should quit climbing and start playing badminton together.

Badminton doesn't exactly foster good relations in the community either, Ho. There's always the chance the birdie will hit someone in the face and get the game closed. I think a safer option is just holding hands and smiling at one another.

i thought that's how everyone plays badminton these days? all those nasty birdie injuries, and sore ankles in the '80's...that was so sad.
