Lil Abner's will be the cheapest and closest - as far as motels go. There are a few crags really close to there that have a lot of moderate climbs. Roadside and TOrrent are only about five miles or so away.

I might be able to help you out with a place to stay- not 100% sure yet though. There is a nearby lodge which has been out of operation for a couple of years. However, it is still maintained/ cleaned regularly. We sell property in a development about 6 miles away from the Red River Gorge & stay in this lodge each visit we make there (we are based out of Knoxville, TN). Since you are coming all the way from the Left coast, then I would say that Lexington might be considered close to the Gorge (about an hours drive, maybe less?). It's a fair-sized metropolis with all the trappings and amenities. If you choose to stay in the Gorge and need some civilation one night, it may be your best bet.
