Just curious what is the closest emergency vet to the red? Wes your experience is one of my deepest fears. I may even start leaving the beast at home for the height of snake season. I hope your dog is okay.

mcrib, The AA emergency vet in Lexington was the closest - but be ready to give them $800.00 right away, as a deposit on what could be a $1600+ bill. It would be really good to find out if the Stanton vet is on call.

Not a lot you can do for snake bites, just treat for shock and swelling, make sure they are comfortable, and watch for infection, etc. No anti-venium for dogs, though I might look into this:

I have always seen a sign at our vets that advertises a like vaccine for snake bites, there are nasty ones out here in the desert too as you probably know. I think it's the same as that redrockbiologics...I read a lot about vitamin C and snake bites too with dogs, might want to research that.
Wes...I hope everything works out OK. We were just talkin this morning that it's almost worse than havin kids...we want our dogs to have the outdoor life with us, but there are so many things that can hurt them too...but, we just can't see leaving them home either, they would hate us if they missed out on a camping trip...We have to take both ours to the vet this week too, after a weekend out, I am pretty sure Boo snorted a foxtail or ten up her nose she won't stop snorting, trying to get it out. THey are the nastiest little plants ever...

Dam Wes. That is sad news. I hope he keeps on the road to recovery quick and smooth.
