Ravens Rock Hike
I have some family coming into town later this week and they want to do the Raven Rock hike. (they are NOT climbers) ;( They had heard about it way back when and want to hike to the summit...being that I am a climber (and have never been there before) I am not sure where the trail to the summit is. I see in the guidebook where to get to the route "nevermore" But does anyone know how to hike to the top or where the trail starts etc? Any beta would help. thanks!

Park at the pull off on your left right before the iron bridge where the locals have placed a sign on a tree which says No More Parking. Go down the road a few feet and then take the right which takes you to a forest service gate. Follow the road for about half a mile over flat ground. The road will then curve left and start going uphill. This is the trail. Bring lots of water if it is hot, the trail is steep.

Just as a side note to Saxman's directions. When you pass the the FS gate, you will be following a 2-track dirt/gravel road that is pretty overgrown. There is one spot that you need to go a little left where the road seems to dissapear for a moment. Once you start going uphill the road turns into a bunch of broken pavement. This will wander and take you all the way to the top.
the rock itself is not, but the approach through that little community is for the first section. That's why you park on the otherside of the road, then walk the gravel road into the community, hang a right and stay on the gravel road until you reach the Forest Service gate. From my understanding, from that point on is FS land. You can also park past the blue steel bridge and cross the creek to pick up the old two track road. That method would be completely on FS land but a bit more adventurous
I think you have to swim to cross the river. Don't park anywhere near that community. The locals get really pissed. The gravel road dissapears into a field and the old road picks up there. you may need to search around or it may be obvious,It takes you up the back side of the rock and switches back a few times.
The view off the backside is nice. you should be able to see the Dome and Long wall to the north. With some Binoculars you should be able to see Chimney.

Best way I have found is, coming from Nada, cross the iron bridge, turn right, and park in side of the road lot. Walk back over the bridge, and drop down on the right. There should be an OK trail that will take you right to the old road. Then just follow the road to the top.
