For a community notorious for it’s cost-conscious, spending habits, I’m amazed at the apparent willingness to demand money be thrown at the problem.

For a community who participates in a sport, mandating that each move be carefully contemplated and when miscalculations occur, all forward motion ceases and the distance gained immediately eliminated, I’m surprised at the willingness to move forward without an established and/or communicated game plan.

For a community so intimately involved with nature, I’m astounded by our willingness to bulldoze another parking lot and road for the ease of access.

Just as money, will not get you to the anchors, I believe there are several issues that need to be dealt with before, promises can be made, and monies allowcated for this new found objective. Issues such as: organizational structure, planning, options, communication, check and balance, negotiations, policies and budgets.

You must now deal with balancing the trinity: Finance, Operations and Sales and Marketing. Each one must stay in sync with the other. For if they do not, all will be lost.

Your political structure took the shape of a political activist group, with a small number of very active “watch dogs” and activist waiting in the wings. Tomorrow you will be “land managers” charged with asset management. These new-found responsibilities may require an enlarged and modified infer-structure.

We speak of “conflict resolution” through compromise. Without the above-mentioned plans, budgets, options, and re-structuring, an organization may become over extended, in conflict, blind sided, and out of options. Compromise becomes a necessity, and when financial assets are exhausted, the only thing left to “place on the table” is often our ethics, morals and beliefs.

Tomorrow we shall deal with the decisions made today.
