you're being lead astray
'projecting' a route is just like anything else-it only has real value when pursued at the exclusion of a rational balance. the question about eating is moot-either you want to climb the route and have the mental discipline (romantically described by Arno as 'the warrior's way') not to allow distractions like food to interfere or, the nourishment is ejected as necessary, end of issue....as to the consideration of others: what they need more than access to routes is an example of uncompromising dedication, a fixation that focuses their misdirected urges that leads them to think they would exist if they were climbing 'that' route; which they could never do because they're too good to be a self-absorbed ass made manic by the pursuit of excess. hope this helps

Clif thanks for clarifying. Now I can go forth and conquer. You've helped reawaken the number chasing, arrogant, and otherwise badass climbing monster inside. Screw the balance of life stuff. Life can now be climbing and soon I can bask in the glow of the fame and respect it will bring.
Sweet!!
Umm.... no. Just want to climb something harder than I have climbed before, push myself, and not be a complete ass doing it. While it is possible the target route will go clean and easy, my guess is that I will have to fight for every inch. Rather than giving it up and hanging some leaver 'biner at the the crux, for someone else to deal with I want to finish it. This might take more than a few attempts on one day to work out all the moves. And since I haven't left draws on a route for more than a few hours, I wanted to see whether or not it was "okay" first. Just trying to make sure I don't botch any tenuious connection I might have with the local community before I even get it started. Weird huh? I guess it is just this kind of attitude than prevent me from being a "hardman".

To project or not to project? To cast your lot with those who shamelessly embrace the audacity of thinking they can climb a route that they can't easily onsite? To be found out that one really is partaking of a totally self absorbed pursuit? To acknowledge to the community that sport climbing is an athletic endevour, requiring dedicated training, struggle, and effort? Heaven forfend... oh the downward spiral of our ethos....
Get thee away, infidel. Do not usurp my sport for your own vile purposes.
