suggestion - onsight checkbox

Post by dah-le »

Not sure if anyone else would be interested in this...but I think it'd be cool to have an additional box which one could use to keep track of onsights (similar to the toprope check box)....and way way cool if there was a date auto-encoded in the spraylist when it was first sent.

Sounds like this would be an invitation for a lot of people to lie. People who keep tick lists for others and not themselves are a troubled lot in search of peer approval (perhaps in lieu of parents) and in flight of failure or at least the appearance of failure. If this condemns the whole climbing community, too bad. I don't think it does. FAs are poop. Somebody just got there before I did. "There" describes a locus in multi-dimensions, the most important of these relate to my physical location and my development as a climber. More attention should be paid to the people who go out of their way to make climbing in the red such a rich experience like Terry kindred and Jared Porter, the folks who take care of this website, etc. Removing some cock- wagging from climbing is likely a good thing.

Dah-le said "onsights", not "first ascents." Also, there is a Porter Jarrard and a Jared Hancock, but no Jared Porter.

We'll get back to you on the onsight checkbox, dah-le-- thanks for keeping the ideas coming. :)

Just to keep the pot stirred. Is it an onsite if the draws are hung?

That might make an interesting cloning experiment though - think of the routes that would be around with a creature like that on the loose. :)

kneebar, back in the closet with you, renaissance hardman! It's definitely not a first ascent if the draws are hung, though.

KD, we'll get back to you on that, too. You'd be amazed at what PHP can do!

I knew that... I stand corrected.

Thanks Yasmeen...FYI, I don't really expect anyone to look at my spraylist..its just really recordkeeping for myself. I know some people might 'enhance' their abilities/etc. but really...its a ticklist..who cares?

Oh, and for the onsight...yeah probably draws can't be hung except for those which are 'fixed' or if somone left their project draws...its not like you could expect have someone else clean it just so you could get a 'onsight including hanging draws.' Perhaps like the 'I do solemnly swear..' verbiage you could put in 'I do solemnly swear that I have not seen anyone climb this route before'
