The Red River Gorge is closed this weekend. Sorry.

JB wrote:Muir Valley is what they renamed Yosemite Valley last year. John Muirs grandchildren fought to get the name changed and eventually want to name it John Muir National Park... so Muir Valley is not in the Gorge.

Miguel usually hangs out in the tunnel... near the middle.
JB, I think we're both right. I found a link on the online guide book (this site is cool) http://www.redriverclimbing.com/RRCGuid ... .php?id=12
Looks like there is a Muir down there. I hope it is half as beautiful as the valley in Yosemite.

Miguel, if your out there, I'll pass. I don't "hang out in the tunnel." Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Still, I'll be down there this weekend. Looking to climb 10's, 11's but I'm good to run up other grades.

It would be great if there were more forums like this. Would have saved me many times! Thanks!

The Red is closed. Glad I wasn't planning to climb this weekend. Okay, American Idol is coming on. Gotta get my beer and get comfy......
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Joe, a word of advice to you as well. Just in case you hadn't figured it out already, NOTHING on this site can be taken too seriously. Preying on those poor unsuspecting folk who think this is actually a climbing site, is the only way some of these people have to amuse themselves  (I learned this the hard way  ).

In case you were still wondering, Miguel's is a pizza place/gear shop/camp groud located on hwy 11 about a mile from where it meets the Mountain Parkway. It's the big yellow building. You can't miss it. The place is pretty popular, so exspect heavy crowds.

Also Muir Valley is a great place to climb. The variety and quality of routes is outstanding, and they're all in pretty close proximity to one another, so you don't have to hike the whole gorge just to find another wall. You do want to be careful though, the valley was recently closed so they could inspect all the routes. Most of the walls have been reopened, but I think some are still off limites. Check the "partial reopening of Muir valley" thread for more info, or visit muirvalley.com (you have to go there anyway to fill ou the online waiver). You should be able to find a list of which walls are open and how to tell if a route has been inspected.

I hope that this has been helpfull and that you enjoy your trip to the Red.

I'm always trying to ruin your fun JB  , that's my fun. Well I hope everyone had a good laugh at my expense this morning. I know I certainly did, but I'm going to let you all in on a little secret. I suspected that guy might not have been for real (even though I didn't know there was a name for this kind of behavior) but I spoke up anyways. You wanna know why, because the thought of being mercilessly teased by you folk didn't really bother me. The memory, however, of what it feels like to step into a new social setting (especially one as twisted as this place) and feel like no one is on your side really did. That's why every time I see some poor soul who is completely confounded by all of your antics, I will try my best to help them out, even if it means possibly getting "trolled." So to all those trolls lurking out there in cyber space, I only got one thing to say "BRING IT ON."

That must be what they refer to as southern hospitality, Mr Littleboxes, thank you.

So the Red River Gorge area is not closed this weekend, right? There's not any info on hte the ky.gov web site, but they don't have any route info, topos, etc. there anyway so I'm not too surprised.
