don't care much for honey, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. eating while you run isn't too difficult, but does require a little practice.

your ankle okay enough to do the half?

No, I doubt I can run for another six months. I tried it and got punished with pain.

I've had very good luck with body glide. You can use it anywhere that might chafe.

If you like Gatorade I would go with Gatorade Endurance, it's made a little bit more for long distances. This week I just plan to drink lots of water and start carb loading on Wednesday. That should get me about as ready as I'm going to be.

Its easy if you are going as slow as I do!
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Man...I am sorry I just logged on to see this. Suggestions for nipple protections and chaffing issies...BODY GLIDE! One application to the nips and all those sensitive areas where the sun don't shine but get rubbed raw will thank you. I swam, bikes and ran 140 miles and that body glide did the job.

The sport drink debate is one that will go on forever and people are as loyal to their brand as NASCAR fans are to their drivers. I think the main thing is to find one you like during the training and stay with it. DON"T try something new on race day! If it's hot, you may want to consider a electrolyte replacement capsul...Like endurolytes, by Hammer Nutrition. On a hot day you can loose enough sodium during the race to cause Hyponatremia, or water intoxication. This condition is where you are replacing sweat, which contains salts, with water. the result is a depletion of the salt content in your body. Bad news!

Anyway, Be careful and have fun

Wow, 26.2 miles is a long way. Hope everyone around here who ran had fun, did their thing, won, finished, etc. Weather was perfect albeit a little rainy, but way better than sunny. Jill and I finished and in less time than we thought we'd need. Dead last via the timing chips (although there were still runners out on the course still finishing up....guess that could make'feel' beter about ourselves if we need that)! As far as a first marathon goes I guess it went ok. Way to many logistics to deal with to go through again anytime soon. I mean checking outta a hotel at 5 something in the morning just aint right.

We screwd up by not doing more of our longer runs on pavement. Many of our longer runs were on trails so by mile 19 or 20 our feet were dead. Shooting pain dead. I'm thinking some more longer runs on pavement would have helped big time. Hydrated really well...so much so that we were hitting the port-a-johns a lot. Powerade sucks, but I was able to hold it down. I like Gatorade way better (like Hefe said, personal preference). Opted outta of body glide, lube stuff and the nipple pro. When you're going as slow as I was going I guess you don't need it.

Thanks for the tips Hefe....I might use them on the upcomming 40 miler. Might as in if I still attempt the thing. Climbing is waaaay more fun than running.

No doubt body glide works for chafing but it DOES NOT prevent blisters in my XC step in ski boots- not that anyone but me really needs to know this.

I haven't had in chafing problems, I use a lot of fancy lotion anyway to prevent dry skin.

So whose up for gracery shopping via the scooter carts for disabled peeps? Today I qualify.

congrats to you and steve for completing your first marathon...wear those battle wounds with pride. i am walking down the stairs backwards today too. and for the first time in my running career (for lack of a better word  ) i, too, dealt with some chafing. there was so much screaming coming from the shower this morning i thought my wife was gonna break the door down...

i bettered my time from last year by 3 minutes. i am somewhat proud and somewhat disappointed. i expected better and am already looking for a run in the fall to improve  .

regards
