A Lexington Herald Leader's Editorial entry reads:
Ways to stop illegals
Stop giving illegal immigrants food stamps.
Stop giving illegal immigrants driver's licenses and other forms of legal identification.
Do not provide illegal immigrants any housing benefits.
Levy a very large fine against anyone renting a home or apartment to an illegal immigrant. No exceptions.
Stop giving illegal immigrants medical care. If they show up at a medical facility, immediately deport them to their home country for treatment. If they have immediate, life-threatening injuries or illnesses, stabilize their conditions and deport them as soon as it is medically safe to do so.
If illegal immigrants come into contact with any police agency for any reason or appear in any court in any jurisdiction, deport them immediately.
Levy a very large fine on anyone employing an illegal immigrant. The fine should be multiplied by the number of illegals employed. No exceptions.
Pass a constitutional amendment denying citizenship to a child born in the United States to an illegal immigrant (either parent).
Pass a law stating that illegal immigrants deported from the United States are persona non grata for the rest of their lives.

ok, gulliver, and this is meant to be constructive:
1-what is the incentive for people to come here legally and go thru the channels? Like i said earlier, my wife is a legal alien. She understood the rules, stood in the lines, paid her cash, got her green card, and played by the rules. She is an immigrant, and it also burns her up that others do not have to follow those same rules. She goes back every 7 years to those same lines to prove she is productive and useful to the US economy. What is so difficult about having everyone follow this procedure? I think it sucks that she has now went thru this procedure three times while living here, yet people want to protect the illegals. You (the general, not specific) suck if you don't believe this problem hurts us all.
2-why do folks blame the US and not blame Mexico? Why is this the US' problem, and not a serious issue of folks fleeing Mexico? Seems to me there needs to be incentives for people to stay in their own country and help their local economy. They are actually draining the Mexican economy by working here. I say this should be more about the leaders in Mexico stepping up, and not about the US solving the world's problems. Again.
Get out of Iraq. Get out of bailing out the Mexican gov't for its horrible labor practices. Funny how coming here for $5 an hour seems like an excellent job. Why aren't we screaming about wages south of the border?

The words, "bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free" echo true. This country's heritage of being a melting pot is most laudible indeed. However now there are many who aren't doing the right thing, and only being rewarded. To quote a great fundamentalist: "It is never right to do something wrong in order to get the opportunity to do something right" is best suited for this situation.

A lot of illegals are paying money into Social Security and to the IRS that they'll never (directly) recover. Just a small point in their favor.
My problem with all this is the people that exploit illegals are given a free ride by the Feds. If you can't do your business legally then you deserve NOTHING. Go to jail, go bankrupt, I don't care. Fuck all of them. I would love to build homes but it is not possible to compete against the current crop of unscrupulous builders who are exploiting illegal aliens and cheating the buyers with substandard materials and construction. Even in the home repair biz (which, paradoxically, is fueled by the shit construction on new homes) I've been repeatedly underbid by people who have brought in a crew of $7/hr Mexicans and left a job behind that was good for a couple of years but should've lasted a lifetime. It's the same mentality of our current government: pass it on and if you don't get caught it's fine. I just get to play the part of the budget deficit for the next generation today! Which is I charge five to ten times to fix this crap as it would've cost to do it right the first time.
Don't even get me started about farmers and farming. The fact that a head of iceberg lettuce costs about 60 cents is just fucking staggering. It came from California, for Pete's sake!!! You want to farm in the beautiful hills of Kentucky? Good luck making a living. Legally, that is.

A wall has to be built. As long as an very low impedence to flow exists immigrants will continue to flow illegally across the border.
I say lets deal with the folks who are here and process them in to legal aliens, let them stand in line with everyone else if they desire citizenship, and plug the holes in the border to get nascent illegals to obey our laws.
