just wondering what everyone thought about the article on the red in the new issue of climbing magazine...so, what do you think? pretty much all they talked about concerned all the newer areas in the red...even though they didn't give directions, is anyone worried about access problems now? also, it mentioned that at these new areas (darkside, solar collector, gold coast, farside, etc) have legit access due to the fact that an understanding was reached between the landowners and the rrgcc before the crags were developed. that is really really cool! props to whomever set that up...are there any plans to add any of these areas to the online guidebook ray? :D

Yea Matt, I think I'm going to add the Solar Collector and Darkside to the online guide. I was holding off but I'm getting about 10000 private messages and emails a day plus there's about 1000 posts a week asking for route names and directions to those areas. It would make life much easier if I just published them.

reeeally....i would have never imagined that! the reason i posted this question was that the article clearly stated that access had been established and secured long ago...so if it is open to climbing...share the wealth! i don't want to start some sort of access fight! these areas are really amazing, and i think a lot of folks would like to check out a new area that is open to climbing....

The thing I hated about the article is that it made Hugh look like a xenophobe, which he's not. About access to those cliffs, I think a lot of people hate the idea of the unwashed masses swarming to the cliff...and people wonder why there are super, secret crags....

Well, actually those cliffs are about as far from super-secret as you can get. Ever been up to Solar Collector on a crowded day? Last time I was we were the only ones with Kentucky plates. Illinois, Michigan and Ontario.

I absolutely agree. I wasn't trying to imply that it was super secret. But you know what I mean...I suspect you have heard rumors of a secret crag or two?

What we need is for all of the people climbing at the Murray Property crags, secret or not, ante-ing up for the purchase so our access to these area can be secured. Johnny, is there any understanding w/the owner concerning publication of access info? If the info could be published prior to purchase, this might be a vehicle to help raise the neccessary funds?

I agree. That's what the whole climbing for dollars thingy should be aimed at.
