I may be fading to black. Which is OK. It's the white light that constantly draws me towards it!

i'm wondering about the legalities of things. if they make the $2 mandatory, does the KY Wilderness Act thingie still apply? the thing that lets them off of the hook on liability.
You are thinking of the recreational use statute. The statute does not allow a landowner to charge for use of their land for climbing, swimming, hunting, or whatever if they want to be able to seek its protections. This is one of several requirements in the statute.

Don't really know if this would work but seems doable.
No Dogs
No swearing
No defecating on the ground
Then all cars must park at the BBQ lot and pay a fee for PARKING not climbing (eliminates liability issues ?? )
Limit number of cars to whatever works for Mark.
Charge like $5/car that way you get 2.5 climbers at $2 /head balancing out weather someone has 2 people or 4 people in their vehicle.
Everyone hikes over to the climbing area.
This would keep people from parking at the B&B, control the number of climbers at any given time etc. etc.

Here's what I think. Quicksilver presents what I think is doable. I have but one suggestion. When you pay to park at the BBQ, passes for each visitor should be issued. This pass must be displayed at all times while at the crag. We of course will need to present this to the Meyers. I will talk to bob and see what he thinks. I really do like this idea!

I could be wrong, but I do not think that Mark wants to actively think about the climbers on his property...in fact, it seems it is probably quite the opposite. So creating schemes that require repeated action and attention (ie, collecting money other than the donation box, giving out passes, etc) is probably not the best solution. He has yet to express interest in running a business around climbing on his property.

why not a self policing system of passes...
park at the bbq....pay your money, grab a sticker..write today's date on it...attach it to your car or pack. just a simple step to make people aware of the need to pay.

I think the whole Via Ferrata thing is a business centered on climbing.
Mark has people on his payroll, in the tent, on the lot, that would gladly
take your money and issue you a sticker for parking. I do agree though that he probably does want it to be as little hassle as possible, so then again, maybe not.
