If you guys are seriously afraid of rhotodendron, you should go to Cochise Stronghold and enjoy the cholla, or to Jtree, for the wickedest plant ever, the cats Claw shrub. Ahhh- ever feel like you got in a fight with 20 house cats at once?
I'd like to call myself a "has-been" but I never climbed that hard, so I guess I'm just a washed up "never-was."
Cat's claw is a whispy looking shrub that can move and blow in teh wind. It looks soft and willowy, but about every inch or so along every biut, and in every direction is a sharp barb/thorn shaped adn sized strikingly like the claw of a cat.
Once you get one hook in you. movement tends to hook more, and you become quite tangled. To extricate oneself without blood or damage to clothing is nothing short of a miracle.

Any idea where this event would be held. I know some really great areas to provide an all day torcher fest, but I have to agree with the real enthusiast summer time would definatly provide a challenge maybe even start it at night....
In a few minutes I'll be leaving for the Big South Fork to do some exploring/bushwhacking/climbing with T bone, Texas Pete, and maybe Bruisebrother. Yahoo! Life is good...
