I have the Nikon D2X, D200, D100 and two D70's...I love all of them! Most girls collect shoes, I collect cameras and lenses.
I haven't had any problems with any of them. I've heard good things about the D50 as well.
I would look at the comparison chart of the Nikon's out there and see what the difference is between the D50 and D70...I'm not sure...I know they are shaped differently.
I do agree, get a fast lens. 2.8 or faster. The Nikon 50mm 1.4 is my favorite. It's a nice starter lens that's fast and won't break the bank ($300).
Good Luck to you!
I want to buy a camera... Advice?
Mulva, There is a b/w setting on my 20d, but I still think you can get better results with RAW and then using channal mixer in PS. The little bit of B/W I have done in the camara has turned out OK though.
Nikon / Canon is bigger then the sport / trad thing. Just get what seems best to you. And Canon/tamron/sigma also have some pretty nice lenses.
Chester, when did you get the D200?

Didn't Nikon just get bought by a Korean company? Has that changed their quality control?
I've got one of Nikon's first compact digital cameras and it's been a workhorse. It still takes really nice pictures. I don't think it handles light as well as film, though.
Also, didn't Carl Weiss (sp?) make lenses for Sony for a while?
