I'd do it. Like Sandy said, a year is such a short time.... I mean, we're already 6 days into February for crying out loud! Didn't the year just start?
Climbing will be so much sweeter when you get back into it in a year. Save up the money and plan a BIG climbing trip to celebrate. There are plenty of ways to keep in shape in the meantime.

I would do it. It sounds like an awesome opportunity, something that most people will never experience. And there's nothing wrong with taking a year from climbing. You'll come back with a different perspective and may be climbing better than ever with a new appreciation for it.

Why not it's only a year, and I am sure they give you vacation time in there somewhere. So just vacation to a crag from the keys>> Seems okay to me. Although not climbing blows hard, it will make you an expert in activities like spear fishing, paddling, airbrushing trashy girls boobs, and spotting gay retirees in their native environment!
Plus if you do get a vacation in there you can get really cheap tickets to brazil and s. america from miami, which could lead to hot tan chicks and S. American Cragging!!! SICK!!!

I hope you've already sent in the acceptance letter.
Climbing's great and all but when you put all your eggs in one basket life gets a bit too risky. If something happened to you tomorrow where you could never climb again would you adapt or would it destroy you? This sounds like an excellent time to diversify, or at a minimum give you some perspective on why climbing means that much to you. You'll get weak, but in the end you'll probably get so much more out of life knowing that you're not limiting your focus.
Aside from that the ocean's pretty damned cool.
