Hitting the Gyms

Post by meetVA »

Hey all, I've had this idea for a bit and wanted to throw it out for some thoughts/critiques and concerns. My main concern was to not cannibalize our resources which is why I'm writing to all of you.

How likely do we think it would be to be able to get various climbing gyms to donate small sums of money? Originally I was going to canvass gyms in Ohio, KY, Illinois, Indiana, TN, NC, SC, FL... and a few others.
Basically states from where I feel like people have come to climb in the Red. I was going to hit up university facilities as well as private facillities.

The idea was to push the concept that outdoor/indoor climbing compliment eachother and push one another to exist. The idea was to also not ask each gym for a lot of money but 10-30 dollars.

Approach?: To do a letter and then a personal phone call (I have lots of minutes on my phone which are just going to waste.)

The other benefit to the gym would be a spot on the RRGCC website. Blake said it wouldn't be hard to put a box on the front page that could scroll the names of the gyms that have donated and then to have a link to another page that would have their location, contact information, websites, etc.

Maybe the more money they donated the larger font they could receive on the scroll?

Their name would stay on the RRGCC site for one year unless they donated for another year.

Thoughts?
Thanks.

i would say that it's definitely something that needs done. a few things i would do:

-put together a spreadsheet with all the gyms and what we've asked/done with them so that we don't, as you say, cannablize our resources
-ask for more like $150-$300 (perhaps say $400 and we'll send you a 'we bought and acre of pmrp for everyone')

personally, i'm not big on the website logo idea.. but that's me.

those are just two quick ideas.. i have more.. but later..

This is definitely an angle that needs addressing. Paul and I are talking about getting some material together (brochures/ printed stuff outling the PMRP/ the RRGCC/ the mission etc...)
Could these be used in the pitch?

Hugh,
Have you got quotes for the printed material ? I have been talking with Artsay about guidebook inserts and will be going to the printer in Stanton for those.

I like the idea of the website banner/logo. Its a selling point for many business owners. The RRGCC has been working on a banner program and this would be a good start.

hugh, i would say, "heck yes."
making it look more organized might make it more convincing.
i think though too that it would really take a one-two punch as it were.
personal and professional.

in concern with asking for 150-300$ amounts, i didn't want to push that high b/c i know gyms are tight budgeted and if they are farther away that sort of plea might seem "too high"? but then again, 10$ is awfully low.

paul doesn't like the "scrolling" box on the rrgcc site. i didn't want to give them banner space for such small sums. i think there is/was talk of hitting up bigger sponsers for larger sums to give them real advert space in the form of banners.

I have an existing spreadsheet of most (if not all) of the indoor climbing gyms in KY, IN, MI, IL, OH, & PA - some contacts, addresses, phone numbers, websites, emails, etc. If it could be of any use to anyone, let me know.
