I think we've got the buzz out right now. We just need to keep it going. Our immediate goal is getting this year's mortgage paid but our goal is to trek forward quickly and get it done ASAP.
I suggest:
1. Get articles written and submitted to magazines.
2. Fundraisors - I'm in the process of getting donation jars set up in local outdoor shops and maybe climbing gyms (?).
3. I'm going to help Wes with the slide show in Lexington and get UK students involved
4. Work on a website
5. If/When we get articles, we can start hitting up the big donators
All these are just spur of the moment suggestions. Input?
Strategy
For fundraisers, I was thinking of having an aggressive strategy of conducting one in a gym or facility in each state, every three months. We could even try to do more.
One thought I've had for awhile is to raise awareness in the non-climbing community by hosting fundraisers in coffee houses. I know that a lot of wealthy people hang out in Starbucks and at Common Grounds. If we could get permission to have a fundraiser at one of these places, it could raise awareness in the community about the PMRP.
I think the idea of writing and submitting articles to the magazines is a fantastic idea. We might want to submit editorials or articles to the newspapers too.
Another idea that Diane had was researching Federal grants.

We need to have a comprehensive fund development strategy - what is the total goal? What percentage do we think can come from individual small donations (i.e. $500 and less); what percentage can come from large individual donations ($500 - 1000 or more); what percentage can we generate from gyms; fundraising events (bear in mind that fundraising events often do a great job of raising awareness, but not raising money...as is the case w/ rrgcc events thus far); what percentage can we get from foundation grants, etc. - once we know these, then we can really move forward and target each demographic with the numbers. Also, shouldn't we focus on paying the total debt, not just this year's - it'll get really, really old to hit folks up for the next 8 years when I think we can do it all inside one year...
Just some thoughts...

How bout this. Everyone on the forum who is down for seeing this project through (1-2 years?) signify your interest. Then let's have an initial brainstorming period of a few days. Let's get all of the ideas everyone has and where each person's interests are in what they want to tackle.
Then, one of us should include these ideas in a comprehensive coordinated plan with defined goals and tentitive deadlines. We each review it and sign off on the plan so as to signify the plan has our support.
Then we execute our piece of the plan.
I propose we have a defined plan up and running before the end of the month.

Sounds good you all. Strategy first but that's a BIG task. We need to set small term goals and keep up with reaching each and every one. I could make a gantt chart to keep us on task. We need to approach this just like a project with distinctive goals and timelines.

I can contact a guy named Chris Gilligan to see if he can help. He used to work for a news channel covering the Capitol. He was the Lt. Gov. PR person and now he's with the Commerce Cabinet. Anyway, I've worked with him, he's a pro. Michelle, I can contact him to gain more contacts in broadcast. Is this something you would like to spearhead or would you like for me to run with it? Remember, the last news paper article I was responsible for, I mentioned half-naked climbers. Just an FYI.

Morgain - Hell yea, run with it! Work your connections, girl! But if you can secure a spot on TV and/or radio, I think it would be good to get me in the mix so I can talk about what we've done so far. Hugh also should be included. We have to utilize what we have and what people already know about the RRG; Hugh is a well known and reputable figure in RRG climbing and my husband owns rrc.com and wrote the guidebook. We need to make people feel like they already know us and want to support us based on reputation alone. Trump could probably just say, give me a $100 and I'll turn it into $1000 and most would throw him a bill solely based on his name.

Another key strategic move, IMO, is to advertise the PMRP as not just a climbing area but a "Recreational Preserve". I think we could hit more people this way. If we draw out the picture of a huge portion of land being lost to recreational activity and in jeopardy of being bought out by the *evil* oil company, we can make this a "save the environment" issue as well.
