Jill and I are thinking about a Shuffle and a Nano for music needs this Christmas. Couple of issues I've seen so far...
Price.
Can't find a FM modulator / 12V power supply that works with both models.
Would Nano skip on trail runs?
Really would like to see these models person...hard to do this time of year.
do not get a shuffle if you like to pick specific songs to listen to (the shuffle is called the shuffle because it only shuffles songs...you can't pick)

nano's are wonderful...but they haven't gotten all the kinks worked out yet...the great thing about nano's is there are no moving parts...you can drop it and it's ok...you can run over it (which they love to tell you about in the Apple store) and it's ok...it WILL NOT skip...

there is this wonderful thing called the iGo (http://www.igo.com/home.asp) that plugs into your lighter in the car and charges everything...they make seperate tips for your cell phone...your iPod (my mini iPod) and other electronics you may use in the car...the great thing about this little toy...you will never ever ever have to buy a car cell phone charger ever again...no matter how many times you switch carriers or switch phones...the only thing you have to buy is the tip to fit your new device...sometimes as low as $5

anyway...if anyone would like to buy my mini from me with accessories and about 4 GB of music let me know...i want a nano even though i would be going from 6GB to 4GB

oh and for accessories for the nano (or iPod or Mini) go to http://griffintechnology.com/ i just set up a retail line from this company through mine...that means I get things at cost!!! whoohooo!!!

i got a 30gb loved it at first then upgraded it last summer. apple had lots of problems with the upgrade and pc's. it crashed my ipod and i lost all of my files - eventually (4 weeks later) a bug patch was out there from apple and things have worked great since. love it now. i have a charger/dock that transmits to my fm - i like it pretty well but ya get frequency probs. going through some urban areas. havent had any physical probs. with it - just upgrade probs. I wont upgrade it again since i'm happy with it like it is for now.

Don't doubt the frequency problems in this day and age, but how is the audio quality? I've read several bum reviews about those FM modulators and how the audio quality suffers.

Thanks for all the reviews, keep 'em coming!

steve - it's really good. not as good as the cassette insert type or a cd - but pretty good really. the trade off from cd-packing/loading efforts to playlist ease is really worth it.

Gottcha, I'm not a 12V audiophile snob like I used to be many moons ago so I'm sure I'd be happy with the sound quality. Like you said the trade off makes the whole i-pod in the auto pretty appealing.

So what brand of FM modulator do you have KD?

I had one for a little while and switched back to a cassette unit. I'm still pretty happy with mp3 cds for the car but for personal listening I've got a Zen Nano plus 1GB. Love that thing.
