New Anchors/Divorce

So I went down to the Red this weekend and man was the weather nice!
The climbing was great the people were great, what can I say, I had a great time.

That being said, before leaving for the Red I decided to take my drill and some hardware so that I could equip a couple of existing Trad lines at the Solar Collector with chain anchors as to make them safer and more accessable for everyone who might climb them in the future.

Everything went great and then.........

On the way home I get 2 calls and a voicemail from my wife telling me that the kids and her are having meltdowns! This means that even after painting the kitchen and making sure not to leave any thing on the do list undone, Im in deep shit for having climbed and once again spent half my trip carrying heavy equipment and drilling and installing anchors on routes that for some reason hadn't seen any since their first ascent some 3 to 4 years ago.

Anyway, I think that in the future it would be great if some of the people who are always saying they want to help and then just want to write a check, should maybe go ask one of there buddies who knows how to drill and install hardware safely on routes should offer their services to be, if nothing else a strong back and a weak mind for the day, as not to endanger any of the climbers families immediate futures

Two calls and a voicemail ON THE WAY HOME is better than the last second, right before you leave, while your shutting the door for your three day climbing weekend, guilt trip..."I'll just be sitting around here with the kids you while climb and drink the weekend away, but, you go have fun." I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sounds like what happens to me all the time with my mom. It's my birthday and she's not very happy with me. Why can't other people understand climbing and the passion most of us have for it?

goodguy- how old are your kids? Is your wife in shape?
Try GRADUALLY teaching them to climb, if possible.
then it can be a family event.

I still haven't heard the end of it because I was off climbing when the bathroom sprung a leak. Yup there was a small flood.

I get that in reverse! My kids will guilt trip me sometimes! I just go into my office, turn on my computer, and start typing. They think I'm changing my will and help me load the car!

I get crap all the time too from my wife...finally what we worked out is if I tried to clean up the house more, she'd try to do more outdoors things with me. She loves going backpacking in nice weather, and has fun climbing with me in the summer (but won't do anything hard or go up more than 20 feet).

I wish I could get her more into climbing, but its almost like she just doesn't get the attraction of it...any thoughts on how I could peak her interest in the sport in general, without feeling like I'm ramming it down her throat?

Maybe some of you female climbers could take her out for a day and show her how chicks can climb?
